One of the best things about the holiday season has to be the January sales; the huge discounts, reckless spending and repeats of Black Friday aggression….OK maybe not the aggression bit but still. New Year sales are also a great way for retailers to divest themselves of left over Christmas stock to make way for new lines.

You can use several different channels to tell your customers about all of your offers, but SMS is probably the best; it’s easy to manage, instant and has an open rate of 95% meaning that your customers are much more likely to see the message and start spending!

Using SMS to Enhance a Busy Farm Shop and Delivery Service at Christmas

Posted by Katie McNaught

New ideas to encourage healthy eating have sprung up all over the UK, and a growing desire to get ‘back to basics’ by eating local and organic food is increasing. As a result farm shops are getting more popular and are often paired with the delivery of fresh, seasonal vegetables and organic meat to people’s homes… or ‘veg boxes’. Companies such as Abel & Cole, Hello Fresh and Slipstream Organics are running successful businesses that bring great quality vegetables straight to our doors (so no excuses!).

Christmas is a very busy time of year for farm shops and veg delivery companies; aside from providing meat and vegetables for the biggest foodie day of the year they are often selling Christmas trees too. Because of this a quick and convenient method of communicating with their customers is essential. Veg box deliverers need to be able to inform customers when orders have been confirmed, when they’re on the way and of any changes being made, as well as marketing their boxes to lapsed customers.

The number of SMS sent typically increases over Christmas, with companies marketing their products amongst stiff competition and also dealing with higher home delivery volumes. It is important however that it is used appropriately; smothering customers with lots of blanket messages will only encourage them to look elsewhere. With that in mind, your campaigns should be well thought out and always focussed on your customers.

It’s no secret that year on year the consumer preference for shopping online, watching online and purchasing digital devices is increasing. Following the focus on online shopping events such as ‘Black Friday’ and ‘Cyber Monday’ it is a straight forward prediction to say that more people will again be online in some form, using mobile devices during the Christmas period, as we leave 2014 and enter 2015. The increase is however significant, with 1.5 billion more being spent since last year, and a predicted increase of 4% year on year. Consumers are now proving they have adopted a new way of buying & communicating. Last year it was expected that there would be an increase in overall commerce transactions of 15%, many reported that this prediction was closer to 20%.

holding-phoneThe behaviour of consumers is changing, we are all aware of that. The term ‘multi screening’ can be applied to most living rooms these days as many of us browse social networks or play games whilst watching television. Research by Vodafone suggests that the average Brit will spend around 15 hours watching programmes made for TV on their mobile devices. If ever there is a period of the year that demonstrates the power of mobile and growth of digital communications, this is it.

Emma has been running her own hairdressing business for almost 10 years in an increasingly popular student town. However competition in the last few years has increased with more hairdressers opening up nearby, causing her number of appointments to fall by 10% in comparison to previous years.
