It’s no secret that year on year the consumer preference for shopping online, watching online and purchasing digital devices is increasing. Following the focus on online shopping events such as ‘Black Friday’ and ‘Cyber Monday’ it is a straight forward prediction to say that more people will again be online in some form, using mobile devices during the Christmas period, as we leave 2014 and enter 2015. The increase is however significant, with 1.5 billion more being spent since last year, and a predicted increase of 4% year on year. Consumers are now proving they have adopted a new way of buying & communicating. Last year it was expected that there would be an increase in overall commerce transactions of 15%, many reported that this prediction was closer to 20%.
The behaviour of consumers is changing, we are all aware of that. The term ‘multi screening’ can be applied to most living rooms these days as many of us browse social networks or play games whilst watching television. Research by Vodafone suggests that the average Brit will spend around 15 hours watching programmes made for TV on their mobile devices. If ever there is a period of the year that demonstrates the power of mobile and growth of digital communications, this is it.
