Sending the Right Message at Christmas

Sarah Morgan

With less than one month to go (and who can believe it’s that time of year already?) it’s time to dust off your Christmas tree, get the baubles out, switch on the lights and deftly place the fairy on top…

.. before you realise that the tree is now well over 6 foot, and as you have to bend a few branches down to get the fairy on top in the first place, it’s all going to come crashing down before you can say ‘Ho Ho Ho’ ! But fear not, some more Mobile Marketing Tips are winging their way over to you, to help this festive period be less stressful than it needs to be, at least where business is concerned.

It’s easy to get caught up in the festive spirit (whether it’s Merry Christmas or ‘Bah Humbug’), and before you know it, you are turning over the ‘open’ sign on the door for a few days off… but before we do this, there are some important things we need to consider:

Have you informed your customers of your Christmas opening times? There are no ‘set’ Christmas hours, it all depends on the type of the business and how many people work there, and whether your business is customer facing or not. All these factors considered, it’s good to let your customers know your opening hours a few weeks in advance so both you and they can plan around them.

Most of the country is facing some sort of weather warning for snow over the coming weeks. It’s important to consider how this might affect your business and if you need to think of a contingency plan. On Tuesday one of our staff members went to post something for Saturday, at which point the Post Office staff member informed them that due to the weather, second class post might not get there in time so it would have to be first class! So why not avoid the post rush and communicate via text? It’s quick, it’s easy, and think of all the money you will save on stamps when you can send a text from as little as 3.2-3.8p depending on the quantity you order. This is also a great way to keep customers informed about the status of their order, transaction, or anything which has to be sent by post. You can text them to let them know it is on its way, which not only is good customer service, but a great way to ensure you maintain contact with your customers.
This brings us onto the next point, which is customer contact. It’s likely the people who used your business this time last year might be interested in using it again, so be proactive and contact them before they go somewhere else!
Last but not least, many companies decide to have a pre-Christmas sale, so what better way to let your customers know than by text? The great thing is that they can get this straight away, especially if they are out and about in town and are able to visit you there and then. Pre-Christmas sales and ‘3 for 2’ or ‘BOGOF’ offers are extremely popular, so it’s important to strike while the iron’s hot, especially considering Christmas shoppers are usually in groups of two or more. This highlights another benefit of SMS which is that it is viral, so by sending a text to one customer you could increase the number of people which use your service or visit your store simply because of the time of year.
